Larry and Company was started in May of 2000 by Larry Oswalt, owner of Larry Oswalt Trucking Inc. The intended goal was to handle overflow freight from the trucking company.
My wife, Michelle, and her siblings all worked for Larry and were heavily involved in both sides of the business. Together they all worked hard to make the companies grow.
I was employed in the communications industry and traveled worldwide configuring and troubleshooting pre-paid cellular networks. In September of 2004, our parent company decided to close our Tulsa office. I was one of few who were to remain on board for an additional 6 months. I was later given the option to possibly move to Bedford, MA and continue my work. Real estate prices, distance from family and so forth told us it would be foolish to move there so we looked at other areas such as Dallas, TX.
Larry didn't like that we might have to move out of state and proposed that Michelle and I buy Larry and Company from him and continue to live in Oklahoma. While the trucking business wasn't my first choice for an alternate career, I knew it would be a good opportunity and on April 1st of 2005 we took the keys and ran with it. The first 3-4 months was a bit of a struggle as I learned the business and as Michelle patiently tried to teach me. How many joints of 12" .375 wall will fit on a truck? Is it stripped or pyramided? You have how many boxes and they are what size? The load needs 12 pieces of dunnage? What the heck is dunnage? You can see where I'm going with this!
Almost 4 years later Larry and Company has continued to serve it's existing customers and gain some new ones as well. Our commitment to staying on top of things and communicating with our carriers and customers has set us apart from the others. We like to say we are large enough to handle your needs but still small enough to make customer service a priority. We don't think of this as a sales pitch but rather a promise.
Honestly today I can say that I really enjoy what I do along with the challenges it presents on a day to day basis. We greatly value the business relationships we have jointly created and maintained over the years.
